Many businesses have a website that "exists" but doesn't bring in inquiries. Often it's not the design, but a few simple mistakes. Here are the nine I see most often.
1. The first screen doesn't say what you do
Visitors decide within seconds whether they're in the right place. A headline like "Welcome to our website" tells them nothing. Say what you do, for whom and where: "Websites for small businesses across Europe".
2. There's no clear next step
What should the visitor do? Call, send an inquiry, book? Every page should have one visible main button with a clear action.
3. The site is slow on mobile
Every extra second of loading means part of your visitors leave. Oversized images are the most common cause. Converting them to WebP with correct dimensions often halves the load time.
4. The contact form doesn't work
It sounds unbelievable, but it's common: the form sends to an old email address, messages land in spam or the form isn't connected at all. Send yourself a test message. Today.
5. No proof that you're good
Case studies, customer reviews, photos of your work, numbers. People buy from those they trust, and trust is built on proof, not adjectives.
6. No prices or even a range
You don't have to publish a price list, but "price on request" with no context at all puts many people off. Explain what the price depends on or give a ballpark range.
7. All services on one page
Google struggles to rank one page for five different services. Every important service deserves its own page with its own title, description and FAQs.
8. Outdated content
News from 2021 on the homepage says nobody looks after the site. A good admin lets you update content in a minute.
9. You don't measure anything
If you don't know how many people visit, where they come from and where they leave, you don't know what to fix. Even simple analytics of visits and contact clicks is an eye-opener.
How to get started
Take this list and check your site with your phone in hand. You can fix most points without a new website. If you find that your site needs a redesign, get in touch and let's build a site that works for you.
